What's that music? Oh, it's REM!

REM and the Athens Area Arts Council have just released a new video highlighting the Athens music scene and the successful installation of the first nine artist-designed bus shelters in Athens. These funky shelters, a collaborative effort between AAAC, the Athens Transit System and the Athens-Clarke Unified Government have received national attention for transforming ordinary bus stops into creative, functional public art for people who ride public transportation every day.

A jury of community leaders, Athens Transit bus drivers, and local bus riders chose the next four bus shelters. These are the last of the music-themed shelter project. Two shelters, “Beat a Drum” and Murmur,” honor REM’s music, and a third shelter brings to life the renowned B-52’s “Love Shack.” The fourth shelter is itself magically musical, with flute-like bars that create enchanting melodies as the wind drifts through.

REM has now contributed their music to support this complimentary video in the hope that it will inspire you to support the programs and projects of the Arts Council. Please watch the cool video and support our musicians, our artists and our people, and show this diverse little town how truly inspirational we really are! We have until July 1st to raise $2,500 to receive a matching contribution from an anonymous donor.
