I painted this illustration in the days after Sinead O'Connor ripped up the photo of the Pope on Saturday Night Live. Her album of covers, Am I Not Your Girl?, had just been released.
Sinead's mercurial personality, mixed with the belief system with which she was raised, made it almost inevitable that I incorporate religious imagery into the piece.
This illustration was a promotional piece, and has never been published, However, it is a key component of the portfolio that got me my contract in 1992 with the Ottawa Citizen.
